I am a Cuban-born artist of Spanish and Taino Indian descent and my art honors and respects my deep spiritual and cultural connection to my roots, my ancestors, and to the earth. My work is a kaleidoscope of themes, inspired by my spirituality and the pretty things in the world around me. Art is in my blood. My father is a renowned Cuban artist whose work has been exhibited all around the world. My grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, and beyond were all artisans. I am honored to carry on our traditions and hope to instill the same inspiration in my children and their children.
Without wounding too philosophical, everything beautiful is made out of love. Human beings, this world, all works of art. I see it everyday. Every single end product with our fabrics is a work of art. It all starts with carefully selecting a color palette, or a flower. As my computer screen comes to life with beautiful florals, I get giddy. My only wish is for this same happiness and love that I poured onto every single print to come through as a big warm hug. As Maya Angelou once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
